Your QCJ5 is equipped with a powerful camera and software combination that allows you to align circuit boards for double sided and multilayer production.
The Fiducial alignment will allow you to align your board even when things are seriously wrong.
To align your board, you will select two holes on the screen called “fiducials”. These holes will serve as a rotating point for the rest of your board.
Note: Before using the camera, you’ll need to adjust the lighting on the camera via the F-STOP until the image of a hole on the video screen looks something like this:
Calibration:
You should not need to calibrate the camera. This was done at the factory. If the calibration is off, here are the instruc-tions to reset it: • Turn the camera screen on, “Show Camera” on JVision tab.
• Jog the camera directly over any hole (larger holes are better).
• Press CTRL+SHIFT+F1.
• Go through the dialogs; click on the hole in IsoPro.
• Note: if the software detects/“displays” two holes in the view screen, as opposed to just one hole, a hole selection screen will pop up. Adjust the image cutoff threshold using the slider at the top of the screen. When the hole you want appears as a circle on the screen, click it and then click the OK button. This will let IsoPro know which circle to use.
• Go through the remaining dialogs.
• Unless an error occurred, your machine is now calibrated. This is saved upon execution of the calibration process. You don’t have to exit the software or restart IsoPro for this to be permanently saved.
Translate/Rotate Board: • First, translate, rotate, and flip the board as you see fit.
• Then click the “select fiducial” button on the edit toolbar. See image below:
• Click both fiducial holes that you want to register. It is best if you pick holes diagonally that are far apart.
◦ Note: the camera will be reading the location of these holes, so you want to make sure the holes aren’t past the camera’s XY travel
limitations.
◦ Once the holes are selected, Jog with the keyboard arrows, the camera over the first fiducial (that has been rotated, translated, and
possibly flipped) and click the “get center” button. Note: if the software detects/“displays” two holes in the view screen, as
opposed to just one hole, a hole selection screen will pop up. Adjust the image cutoff threshold using the slider at the top of the
screen. When the hole you want appears as a circle on the screen, click it and then click the OK button. This will let IsoPro know
which circle to use.
• The hole’s absolute coordinates should appear below the button.
• Repeat this process for the second fiducial.
• With both fiducials in place, click the “get center” button again, only this time you’ll be “calculating” the location of the board.
• Answer the question about the board being flipped.
• Go through the remaining dialogs.
• It’s just that simple!
• Your board will now rotate into position. Once this is done, click “Save As”, assign the ISO file an new name, and reset to clear everything out and enjoy your new board!
Note: once you have calibrated the system, you can use the ”jump cam to cursor” function by right clicking on the mouse position on the ISO file and selecting the ”machine->jump cam to cursor” function. This will save time jogging the head around the table.
